Blissful Drunks
Blissful Drunks was inspired by the recent terrorist attacks in England. I was having dinner at a bar, watching television, and a news clip came about a failed terror attack. There was a car burning in the background, and a man rolling around on fire screaming "God is great." As I looked down the bar I saw the bar tender, then a woman sitting next to me, and then myself in a mirror. At that moment I realized something about my culture. I realized that it is too preoccupied with having a good time rather than stopping our time's greatest threat. People are dulling their senses with substance abuse rather than paying attention to those who are attempting to kill them. I painted the work in cubism for the same reason I paint all of the Drunk Cubist paintings... To show a break in reality.
